Saint Valentine: the martyr of love

Next Saturday people in love will celebrate Saint Valentine's Day. The 14th of February is a time for the celebration of "Romantic love". As the day approaches, people try to find the right card, buy flowers or chocolate or maybe make a reservation for a candlelight dinner. The sending of Valentines (love cards) is very popular in the United Kingdom. The Greeting Card Association estimates that about one billion cards are sent each year on Valentine's Day.
But who was Saint Valentine? The legends dates back to the time of the Roman Empire when marriages were forbidden by Emperor Claudius. Watch this video about his true story.

Hi Monica, thanks a lot for your blog.

You have written that on Valentin's day people sents one billion cards.

A billion cards is a million of millions. It's that right, people really loves their lovers.

Don't you think the number of cards is wrong?

Or perhaps the word "billion" really means a thousand of million.

I hope your answer. Bye.

A billion in England is one thousand million. That's 1.000.000.000 instead of the Spanish billion which is 1.000.000.000.000.
